Meet Candido.
Candido Brown is a dynamic and results-driven educational leader with over 18 years of experience in transforming educational practices, school culture, and leadership development across diverse educational settings. He holds a Master’s Degree in Education Policy and School Management from Harvard Graduate School of Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Johns Hopkins University. Candido is the Founder and CEO of BetterEd Solutions, a DC-based school improvement and transformation company specializing in training and development for school leaders and teachers. His work focuses on transforming mindsets, building capacity, and significantly improving student achievement.
At BetterEd Solutions, Candido has led comprehensive analyses of school culture and instructional practices, providing strategic and actionable insights that have helped numerous schools and districts close teaching, learning, and leadership gaps. He has designed and facilitated professional development programs for district and school leaders nationwide, empowering them to implement effective 21st-century instructional and classroom management strategies. His efforts have resulted in measurable improvements in teacher effectiveness, student engagement, and academic performance. Through his partnerships with education leaders, Candido has developed systems to leverage behavioral and academic data, ensuring that interventions are executed with precision to drive student success.
Prior to founding BetterEd Solutions, Candido served as the Manager of Culture and Active Learning at Success Academy Charter Schools, the largest charter school network in New York City. In this role, he played a critical role in the strategic planning, training, and management of the organization’s 47 schools. Under his leadership, the network achieved significant gains, including a 42% increase in teacher retention, a 33% rise in teacher preparation, and the successful training of over 1,200 educators using a pioneering online platform. He was also instrumental in implementing a new strategic plan for teacher and leader hiring, training, and retention, fostering a more prepared and diverse workforce.
As a school principal at Success Academy, Candido quickly transformed a low-performing school, achieving a 73% increase in operational targets and a 59% rise in academic achievement within the first year. He has a proven track record of coaching and mentoring school leaders to meet and exceed key performance indicators in school operations, instructional quality, and student outcomes.
Candido's career also includes teaching positions at Touro College, where he trained graduate students in elementary education best practices, and leadership roles at Achievement Prep Charter Schools and Building Excellent Schools, where he supported curriculum development and leadership training. His experience extends to literacy program management for Boston Public Schools, where he collaborated with school leaders to design and implement balanced literacy programs, leading to significant improvements in student literacy outcomes.
Candido is passionate about educational equity, social justice, and creating culturally responsive learning environments. His strategic vision, combined with his ability to build strong relationships across educational communities, has allowed him to drive systemic change and empower educators to deliver high-quality instruction that meets the diverse needs of all students.
